Missional Field Notes

Quotes, Examples, and Ideas from My Missional Frontier

That quote is from Mike Tyson describing why he bit Evander Holyfield’s ear during a boxing match. I don’t quote it here as an excuse to go around biting ears, but rather as a call to adaptive leadership.

See, ministry is full of plans. As I write this I’m looking at Fall Scheduling and our church plans for worship and education. I’m looking at the potential for some “Cottage Meetings” to get into the vision and mission of our congregation. And, all the while, I’m praying that our folks would be made into better disciples through all of this.

They are plans.

But I know I’m going to “get punched in the mouth.”

I would argue that Mike Tyson’s response in that situation was not helpful.

How will I respond when the trials come?

How can I — WE — adapt?
