Journeying together with others is vital to human beings. We crave companionship and a shared story. A shared life is one in which everyone is part of the story of the group, where newcomers get told it and included, where participation is high and there are rites of passage that enable involvement. A friendship group becomes an extended family when it is intentional about doing the things that build a shared life. A group that is building a shared life is effective in society.
